  1. I am a recent high school graduate where can I find my advisor? [Answer]

    If you have a myLSUA account you can see who your advisor is by simply logging into myLSUA and click on the 'Student' tab. Your advisor will be listed under the 'myAdvisor' section.

    If you are a College of Arts and Sciences Major listed below you will go directly to your department for advising. If you are a College of Professional Studies Major you will go directly to the Advising Center for advising. (Starting Fall 2007 all new students will see the Advising Center.)

  2. Where is the Advising Center located? [Answer]

    From I-49 take exit 80 (HWY 71 South). Approximately three to four miles from I-49 the LSU Alexandria campus will be located on the left. At the second caution light in front of campus take a left. Take an immediate right on Middleton Drive. The Advising Center will be the second two story building on the left (Student Center [Multi colored brick]), second floor, room 211.

  3. Everyone recommends Early Start or University Studies. What are they all about? [Answer]
  4. Is it important to save All my receipts? [Answer]

    Yes, save all your receipts. You never know when you are going to need them. Keeping a folder is one of the best practices a college student can have.

  6. What should I do before I drop a class? [Answer]

    Always check with Financial Aid first and check with your advisor!

  7. I just bought a book wrapped in cellophane. Should I open it immediately? [Answer]

    No, go to the class and verify that the book is indeed the one needed. Then you may open it. Often students will open a cellophane wrapped book and the bookstore will not give full price on that returned book.

  8. Where can I get my student identification (OaKard) and my parking decal? [Answer]
    • During Walk-In Fee Payment or at Auxiliary Services. Auxiliary Services is open @ 7:30 so you may register your car before class.
    • Students receive 2 free decals and each additional decal costs $2.50
    • It is important to bring your license plate number!
  9. If I am having trouble in my classes what help is available? [Answer]
    • Talk with you teacher.
    • Contact the Advising Center 767-2604 or Student Services 473-6545
    • Math, Science, English, and Writing tutoring is available in the TLC lab located above the bookstore.
    • PLATO is an online tutorial system. Student may access PLATO by logging into their mylsua page.
  10. What activities are available on campus? [Answer]

    There are many activities on campus. Look around for posting on campus and get involved. Contact the Student Activities office for further information. 473-6545.

  11. Where can obtain a semester schedule? [Answer]

  12. How many hours to do I have take to receive financial aid? [Answer]

    For a Pell Grant students must take at least 3 hours. For a Student Loan student must take at least 6 hours.

  13. What are A-term and B-term classes? [Answer]

    A-term and B-term classes meet for ½ a semester. These classes are fast pace and they may meet multiple times a week.

  14. What are Night Classes like? [Answer]

    Night classes typically meet one night a week. Night classes are also longer than regular weekday classes. A typical night class lasts three hours.

  15. Should I take a Internet courses? [Answer]

    Students must be self motivated to be successful in these classes. Internet courses have limited face-to-face interaction. Some internet courses require exams for 75%, 50%, and 25% to be taken on campus.

    • LCRP – Learning Center for Rapides Parish (England Air Park)
    • LSUAMA – LSUA Museum of Art
    • OFFCAM – Off campus site such as a school, hospital, etc.
  17. I need to take the ACT, what do I do? [Answer]

    Call the LSUA Testing Center at 427-4492.

  18. What do I do if I need technical help registering? [Answer]

    YES, this is one effect way of communication the university uses to communicate with students.

  22. If I receive a D in my English, Math, or major classes, does this mean that I passed the class? [Answer]

    NO, students making a D or below in English, Math, or major courses, MUST retake that course to progress to the next level.
